Small history
Etymology
From the Portuguese "manga," derived from Tamil.
Description
The fleshy fruit of the mango, a tree with dense, dark-green foliage, which grows in tropical regions.
The mango is a "drupe," since its flesh adheres to a large flat stone. The mango has a skin, which ranges from green to red in color, which is removed since it contains irritant substances which make it inedible. Its flesh is dark yellow with a flavor reminiscent of peaches and flowers.
